Antonio Carluccio’s
Southern Italian Feast
"Chiste o paese do sole," says a popular
old Neapolitan song. "Italy is
the land of the sun." And Antonio
Carluccio says this is absolutely
right.
"The land of the
sun is where I was fortunate
enough to be born," remembers Antonio. My father
was station-master in the village
of Vietri Sul Mare on the splendid
Amalfi coast. But when I was
three months old, my family
moved up to the North, where
I grew up in another splendid
area, the Monferrato.
"I feel particularly
lucky to have had a multi-regional
upbringing because it taught
me, through the culinary genius
of my mother, the basics of
what was to become my professional
passion, Italian food."
The award-winning
author of "Italian Feast" celebrates
the cuisine of Southern Italy
in his latest collection of
recipes. Inspired by
his travels, Antonio has taken many
regional specialties and reinterpreted
them with imagination and flair;
recipes like Lamb with Fennel
and Marsala, Cart Driver’s Spaghetti,
and Grilled Wild Mushrooms.
Antonio is the
proprietor of the Neal Street
Restaurant in London’s Covent
Garden and Carluccio’s, the
specialist Italian food shop
next door, which he owns with
his wife Priscilla. The companion
cookbook to his first series
on GREAT FOOD, "Italian Feast,"
was voted England’s Favourite
Cookery Book in 1997.
